On Wednesday, October 23rd the Ways and Means Committee passed H.R. 1922, H.R. 3708, and H.R. 4716 to be taken up by the full House of Representatives. These bills would greatly expand and improve consumer directed healthcare plans by:
- Repealing the provision prohibiting reimbursement of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, unless accompanied by a prescription. Additionally, the bill would allow HRA, FSA, and HSA accounts to be used for menstrual care products. (H.R. 1922)
- Allowing HSA qualified individuals to participate in direct primary care arrangements without losing their HSA eligibility (H.R. 3708)
- Allowing inhalers for chronic lung disease to be paid by high deductible health plans before the deductible is met (H.R. 4716)
We are in full support of these bills which will increase a consumer’s ability to save on their out of pocket health expenses. We will remain vigilant as these bills make their way to the House floor.
