Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day began after the Civil War to honor the soldiers who died in that conflict. It became an official federal holiday in 1971 and now commemorates all U.S. military personnel who have given their lives in service to the nation.
On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of our freedom, and we remember them with profound gratitude. To the families who carry their legacy, we thank you. This day is also a time to connect with loved ones and appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted.
May we never forget their courage.
