On Friday, March 26th the IRS released Announcement 2021-7 which allows for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be reimbursed under the FSA, HSA, and HRA* plans. Eligible PPE includes masks, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes purchased for the purposes of preventing the spread of COVID-19. This applies to PPE purchased on or after 1/1/2020.

*It’s important to note that expenses reimbursable by an HRA will vary by employer. These expenses may not be considered eligible by your HRA if the plan is designed to only reimburses deducible or co-insurance
